Don’t Get Left Behind: AI Skills for Enrollment and Marketing Leaders
Let’s face it, the world of online higher education is a whirlwind. Between juggling countless tasks and trying to connect with potential students as quickly as possible, it can feel like we’re constantly running on a hamster wheel. But the expansion of AI technology offers a real opportunity to connect with students more and in a way that translates to increased enrollments.
RNL’s latest study highlights the growing adoption of AI in online program marketing and recruitment. From automated tasks to personalized communication, AI is transforming the way we operate. While many institutions are already utilizing AI for content creation and chatbots, the future holds even greater potential. University marketers and recruiters are excited about the potential of AI to transform their work. They believe AI can help them connect with students in more personalized ways, making outreach more effective. The largest proportion, 54 percent, see AI as a tool to personalize student outreach.
Additionally, 32 percent see predictive analytics as a key driver for data-driven decision-making, allowing them to tailor marketing campaigns and better support students. Nearly one-third believe AI can automate time-consuming tasks, freeing up staff to focus on more strategic work. Ultimately, these advancements are expected to lead to happier students and stronger enrollment numbers.
The new study indicates that universities see that AI can make the student experience more personal and efficient. Imagine a future where every interaction, from the first website visit to enrollment, is tailored to the individual student’s needs. AI-powered chatbots can provide instant answers to questions, while personalized email campaigns can nurture leads and keep students engaged. It’s a future that’s closer than you think!
But is your university ready to confidently embrace AI and all the potential that it brings?
According to RNL’s study, 81 percent of online program recruiters and marketers believe their senior leadership teams are at least somewhat receptive to implementing AI solutions, and 74 percent believe that AI can help improve conversation rates.
While many institutions are excited about the potential of AI, there’s a clear disconnect between enthusiasm and preparedness. Only a quarter of respondents feel confident in their current AI skills, and 45 percent cite a lack of training as a major hurdle. Additionally, 64 percent worry about how ready their colleagues are to embrace AI. To fully harness the power of AI, we need to invest in training and education for everyone involved.
To bridge this gap, universities should consider implementing an AI education program. This program could start with foundational courses covering AI concepts, terminology, and real-world applications. As employees gain proficiency, more advanced training can be offered, focusing on data analysis, machine learning, and AI ethics. For leadership, executive education programs can explore the strategic implications of AI, including its impact on decision-making, innovation, and risk management.
Imagine a future where everyone, from students to faculty, feels comfortable using AI. That’s the goal of an AI education program: to empower your community with the knowledge and skills to harness the power of AI. With so many people already using AI tools, it’s time to make sure we’re all on the same page.
With this goal in mind, RNL has developed an AI education program targeted specifically for higher ed that empowers your faculty, staff, and leadership with the knowledge and confidence to harness the power of AI. To learn more about RNL’s AI Education offerings, click here.
